PJ Section

The mandate of the PJ section covers the management of the larger CV projects for the accelerator complex, experimental areas, and technical buildings from inception to entry into service; the section also provides Computational Fluid Dynamic expertise to CERN.

Typical projects managed by the PJ sections concern both new buildings and consolidation of existing plants and belong to three families:

  • Water cooling systems;
  • Gas and refrigeration cooling systems;
  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems.

The project management includes the elicitation of requirements from CERN users, the execution of preliminary and detailed design, the management of the tender process and the contract management during the installation, test, and commissioning phases.

The PJ section has a team dedicated to CFD modeling and simulations to support CERN’s decision-making.

Finally, the PJ section is in charge of the CV framework contracts for the installation of cooling and ventilation systems and the CV supply contracts for Air Handling Units (AHUs) and centrifugal pumps.

The PJ Section Leader is Roberto Ales Bozzi. All project requests shall be addressed to the PJ Section Leader.
